Because a Well-Built Roof Starts with a Well-Protected Team

July 8, 2025

Canadian summers can be intense, and our roofing teams know this better than anyone. While summer heatwaves don’t stop our projects, they do call for rigour, preparation and vigilance. On a flat roof, materials such as modified bitumen, single-ply membranes or tar/gravel can reach surface temperatures of over 60 °C, amplifying the risks of dehydration, exhaustion and heat stroke.

Safety, a Top Priority

At Brault Roofing, safety is built into the planning of every job, especially during periods of extreme heat, to ensure the well-being of our teams on site.

Our site managers, foremen and technical partners work together closely to integrate heat-related risk management from the earliest stages of the project. This technical and preventive approach enables us to deliver quality projects on schedule, while protecting the health and safety of our teams.

Adapting to High Temperatures

As soon as temperatures start to rise, our teams adjust their working hours: the most demanding tasks are carried out early in the morning or at the end of the day, when the heat is less sweltering. Prolonged exposure during critical hours should be avoided whenever possible.

In practical terms, this also requires our technical teams to review their planning by considering:

  1. A reduction of physical work during peak heat hours;
  2. Planned deliveries to limit handling under the sun;
  3. A selection of materials and equipment that can be handled safely at high temperatures;
  4. The installation of mobile shade tents with coolers on site;
  5. The constant monitoring of the humidex throughout the workday.

Safety is Everyone’s Business

For every project, our foremen implement a clear and rigorous heat protocol, including:

All workers are also trained to recognize early signs of heat stroke, including dizziness, nausea, headaches, muscle cramps, confusion and/or extreme fatigue.

Furthermore, we encourage open communication within our teams: if a worker is not feeling well, they are encouraged to speak up immediately. Team support is an essential strength on site.

Better Planning, Better Protection

At Brault Roofing, every project is important … but never at the expense of our teams’ health. Our safety standards are high, summer and winter alike, to deliver quality work to our customers in optimal conditions.
