Brault Expertise for a Roof Adapted to Your Structure, Use and Environment

June 16, 2025

Every building is unique, as is its roof. At Brault Roofing, we offer a complete range of solutions adapted to the specific needs of commercial, industrial and institutional buildings across Canada. Here’s an overview of our expertise in five types of roofing and the contexts in which they are most beneficial.

BUR — Built-Up Roofs

Tar and asphalt multi-layer roofs have been a proven choice for decades. Consisting of several overlapping membranes sealed with hot asphalt and covered with gravel, they offer great durability, excellent UV protection and high impact resistance. This type of roofing is particularly well suited to institutional buildings (schools, hospitals) and heavy industrial buildings, where robustness and longevity are a priority.

Single-Ply Membrane Roofs (TPO, PVC, EPDM)

Single-ply roofing systems consist of a single layer of synthetic membrane (often TPO, PVC or EPDM), heat-welded or adhesively bonded. They are lightweight, reflective, easy to maintain and have excellent chemical resistance properties. They are often found on large commercial buildings, such as shopping malls, warehouses, grocery stores or distribution centres, where energy efficiency and ease of maintenance are essential.

Modified Bitumen Roofs (Elastomer)

Also called elastomeric membrane roofs, these two-ply systems are designed to withstand extreme temperatures and frequent freeze/thaw cycles. They can be installed hot or cold and offer excellent waterproofing and flexibility. They are ideal for medium-sized commercial buildings, government buildings and residential rental complexes, where a compromise between durability, cost and speed of installation is required.

Inverted Roofs

Unlike traditional systems, inverted roofs place thermal insulation above the waterproofing membrane, offering protection from thermal shock and UV rays. This system is highly stable and easy to maintain. This type of roofing is ideal for buildings with roof terraces, such as modern institutional complexes, government buildings, or commercial buildings for recreational or community use, especially those with publicly accessible areas.

Green Roofs

Green roofs add an ecological and aesthetic dimension to a building, while offering technical benefits such as rainwater retention, improved insulation, extended membrane life and reduced heat islands. They are increasingly favoured in institutional buildings (schools, libraries, community centres) and commercial buildings oriented towards sustainable development, particularly in urban environments where environmental integration is a key consideration.
